A Learning Management System (LMS)
If you want to offer online training, or even launch an entire learning program, a Learning Management System (LMS) is indispensable. As the name suggests, this is a computer program (or system) that allows you to offer and manage online training/e-learning. E-learning software, in other words. In some systems, you can only offer e-learning. In others, you can also develop it yourself. The ‘management’ part refers to gaining insight into the progress of the learning process. This allows you to see, among other things, how your participants are performing and who has access to which training.
A huge number of different providers use an LMS system. Think of educators, entrepreneurs, or HR managers. Logically, they don't always need the same LMS with the same functionalities and options. Nevertheless, the terms ‘LMS’ or ‘online learning platform’ are often used in these industries, even though they might mean something different. In short, 'Learning Management System' is a very broad term. For this reason, there are an incredible number of LMS systems. The advantage is that you are very likely to find one that closely matches your specific needs. However, finding that exact system is quite a task. To do this, you have to compare the best online learning platforms with each other. And that can take quite a bit of time.
To help you out, we are comparing the 10 most popular LMS systems below, so you don't have to. Thank us later ;-)
The 10 best online learning platforms in the Netherlands compared
1. Pluvo
Pluvo is an all-in-one learning environment that allows you to build and manage your learning experience with great ease. You develop the e-learning using the authoring tool. Managing and offering it takes place in the Pluvo LMS. Through LTI, you can even integrate external e-learning into your platform. The software has almost every feature that the heart of a true e-learning developer desires. For example, the authoring tool is equipped with a wide range of options to make your e-learning as interactive as possible. Think of: videos, images, audio clips, various types of quiz questions, etc. The LMS itself also contains many options, such as sharing files, chatting, holding discussions, issuing certificates, or creating personal learning paths. With Pluvo, you ensure an optimal learning experience for every student. You can offer your academy in Dutch, German, English, French, Polish, Spanish, and Czech. And even more convenient: you can set the platform language per user.
Furthermore, Pluvo offers all kinds of useful services. Every new user receives a free support session, where you are helped with setting up your training and answering your questions about e-learning. Moreover, you can always ask a quick question via chat, where you can expect an answer within 5 minutes. In addition, you can turn to Pluvo for:
- Educational advice;
- The design of your e-learning;
- Various workshops;
- Or for setting up your entire learning program.
In terms of price, Pluvo is very flexible and accessible to everyone. After all, you can use the LMS system completely for free. As you grow, and for example want to give more students access to your training, Pluvo grows with you. The costs adapt to the (size of) your own academy. You can choose from 5 different types of subscriptions, or a custom quote. The most popular subscription costs 95,- per month, billed annually.
Pluvo is both a Learning Content Management System and a Learning Management System. Discover the differences in this blog.

2. Easygenerator
Easygenerator is also a homegrown company, based in Rotterdam. With this software, you can bring e-learning to your own academy in various ways. You can create online training yourself by dragging and dropping all kinds of elements. Just like a page builder, really. But you can also import PowerPoint files from existing training courses. Finally, you can choose from one of the existing e-learning templates, which you can launch immediately or build upon yourself. However, Easygenerator has a light-LMS, which means the system offers slightly fewer possibilities than most other systems. For example, it is not possible to view detailed reports on the progress of the learning process. Or to create multiple training courses or groups. If this is important to you, it is not recommended to use this system. You can then have the content automatically translated into more than 75 different languages. Useful if you want to reach students from all over the world. This company can help you from their office in Rotterdam if you send a chat message or fill out a form.
Furthermore, they offer e-books, guides, webinars, and course templates for support. In terms of costs, you can choose from three different subscriptions. The cheapest subscription costs 96,- per month and the next one 479,- per month. A subscription can also be arranged in consultation. You can try the platform for free, but in the form of a ‘free trial’. Compared to other providers, such as Pluvo, there are fewer options to take out a subscription that fits your personal situation well. As a result, there is a chance that you will get unnecessary features, for which you are also paying more. Or vice versa.
You can find more information about Easygenerator here.
3. StudyTube
With StudyTube, you can not only create and manage your own training courses, but you can also choose from a library of existing e-learning content. They distinguish between the terms 'Learning Experience Platform' and 'Learning Management System'. A LEP (LXP) focuses more on the user experience, specifically how the learner interacts with the system. StudyTube's LXP includes various options, such as allowing employees to indicate their interests, which then tailors the learning content. Additionally, learners gain insight into their own progress, and the environment can be fully branded to match your organization's style. The LMS focuses more on the e-learning developer's experience—that is, you. This is where you manage all training courses within the system. You can set criteria for certificates, send out reminders, and view reports containing data on the quality of your training programs.
They also offer an online training library with ready-made courses from various providers. You can add these e-learning modules directly to your own academy, though they are not organization-specific. StudyTube provides personal guidance during the implementation and adoption of your academy. Furthermore, there is a helpdesk for quick questions, and you have the option to outsource your training development. StudyTube is less transparent about its pricing than other providers; you only gain insight into the costs once you have requested a demo.

4. ANewSpring
ANewSpring is also a Dutch company. They call their system a 'Learning Journey Platform', meaning the learning experience adapts to the learner's behavior and preferences (adaptive learning). The software includes many features similar to those of other providers. In terms of service, ANewSpring uses a distinctive approach to help customers get started. In addition to their own support, there are several service and technical partners available to collaborate with you. On their website, you can choose from English and Dutch partners worldwide, ensuring you receive the right support in the right language for developing and implementing e-learning.
ANewSpring works with two different subscription models: one for trainers and one for organizations. If you choose the version for trainers, you must purchase licenses. Each participant you grant access to your training requires one license, costing 15 per year. You must purchase a minimum of 5 licenses, making the cheapest subscription at ANewSpring 75 per year. If you choose the version for organizations, billing is handled upon consultation. The options for personalizing the subscription are relatively limited compared to some other providers.

5. Learndash (for WordPress)
Learndash is a bit different from other LMS systems because it is a WordPress plugin. You can create a subdomain on your website and launch your online course there using the Learndash plugin. From there, you can create e-learning modules, quizzes, certificates, reports, and assignments. Learndash offers a vast array of possibilities, but it will likely take some extra time to master the plugin. You have to build and configure the LMS yourself, rather than having it done for you as with a ready-made LMS system. You are also responsible for updating the plugin yourself. Learndash is headquartered in the United States, so their customer service is not available in Dutch, which makes the service feel less personal.
Beyond that, Learndash does offer useful services, such as webinars and tutorial videos to help you get started. You must pay to use the Learndash plugin on your website. Costs vary, but on average, an annual subscription is about 185 euros for one website (converted from dollars). If you want to purchase the plugin for multiple websites, you receive a discount. Additionally, you will need to pay for any other plugins and for your website hosting.

6. Articulate
Although Articulate is not an LMS, we are mentioning it here because of its capabilities and popularity. Articulate is a software developer that has brought various e-learning development tools to the market. You can compare it to Adobe, which includes software like Photoshop and InDesign. Articulate offers different versions: 360, Storyline, and Rise, each with different functionalities. Using these tools provides endless possibilities, but it can also make e-learning development quite time-consuming. There are many online tutorials and workshops available to help you find your way. Articulate offers options for various users, including freelancers, companies, and academic institutions. As a company, you pay (converted from dollars) 1,367 per year. If you are a freelancer or an academic institution, you can choose between a personal plan or a team plan. If you choose the team plan, your package includes more features.

7. iSpring Learn (and iSpring Suite)
iSpring has two products. iSpring Suite is a PowerPoint plugin that allows you to develop e-learning, such as scenarios, quizzes, and simulations. iSpring Learn is the LMS where training courses can be hosted. Here, you can gain insight into learning path statistics and schedule learning activities in a calendar. The iSpring team can provide technical support for setting up your LMS, and you can also ask questions via chat. The headquarters are in the United States, so contact will be less personal than working with a Dutch company. You always pay per participant per month.
On average, you pay about 3 per participant per month. The more participants you have, the more features and services are available to you. In addition to the three packages iSpring Learn offers, you can request a custom quote for 500 participants or more.

8. Procademy
Like several other providers, Procademy offers a library of training courses that you can add to your own academy. You even have the option to sell the training courses you have developed to other companies via the Procademy shop, as the software also allows you to create your own e-learning modules. Furthermore, Procademy is suitable for hosting online classes via a virtual classroom, creating tests and quizzes, and gaining insight into your students' knowledge levels. Procademy offers two standard options to choose from, as well as the possibility of a custom quote. Pricing is per participant. With the first option, the participant gets access to the entire academy, including multiple e-learning courses. You pay between 10 and 20 euros per participant per year, depending on your specific situation. With the second option, participants get access to a single e-learning course. In that case, you pay 10 euros per participant per year.

9. Hubper
