How to market your e-learning!

Seven marketing tips, from a strong landing page to reviews, to actually get students to sign up.

E-learning marketing: here is how you do it!

You have spent hours perfecting your online training. You are certain that your training is truly valuable. You announce online that your training is ready to improve the lives of your participants! A post goes out on your company's Facebook account. You wait expectantly for a while. Unfortunately, to your surprise, you see that the participants are not exactly flooding in.

What now? Maybe it just needs a little more time?

But no. Nothing happens. Your heart sinks. You start to doubt the content of your course—something you were initially very enthusiastic about. You decide not to offer the course at all. Apparently, no one is interested...

But wait! It is not your course's fault. Your course is likely just missing the right marketing techniques.

7 e-learning marketing tips for more participants

Tip 1. Create a great landing page

You have a clear goal in mind: Attracting more participants for your online course.

This can take quite a bit of time and effort, but it is worth it in the end. The most obvious step is to direct your future participants to your company website.

Once you have achieved that, you want them to sign up for your training. How do you do this? With a landing page!

What is a landing page?

A landing page is a page on your website where customers arrive after clicking a specific link. In your case, this page contains information about your course.

Your landing page does not have to be perfect. However, we do recommend going through the checklist below.

  1. Basic information.
  • What kind of training are you offering?
  • When does your course start?
  • Where is your course being held?
  • Is it online, in-person, or blended?

  1. The benefits.
  • Why should someone take your course?
  • What are the learning objectives of your course?
  1. Reviews.
  • Do you have reviews from previous students or customers of your course?
  • Do you have reviews from previous students or customers of other products?
  1. Call-to-actions.
  • Add a clear button where someone can sign up.
  • Use clear language for the button.
"Sign up here!"
  1. Structure.
  • Divide the text into short paragraphs of roughly equal length.
  • Use subheadings for your paragraphs. This makes it easier for participants to scan the content.
  1. Contact.
  • Where can someone go with questions?
  • How can you be reached?
  • If necessary: an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section!

Tip 2. Give participants a sneak preview

You can give your students a sneak peek of your course. Think of a microlearning module or a short video. Such a video can present part of your course content, but...

This is how you make more potential participants curious! This makes them more likely to sign up.

Tip 3. Reach your participants online

One thing is certain: your participants are on social media!

Do you know anyone who doesn't use social media these days? Exactly, most people spend more and more time there. There's a good chance your future participants can be found there too! Nevertheless, your posts get less organic reach these days. This means it doesn't yield much if you don't use paid advertising. With a small investment, you can reach a very specific target audience.

Most people choose to advertise via LinkedIn. This platform is simply more business-oriented. However, it is quite expensive. But perhaps your students can be found on Facebook. Or maybe you could consider advertising via other platforms. What about Instagram? Or Pinterest?

Tip 4. Use AdWords like a real marketer!

If you have a bit more budget, you could consider advertising via Google. You pay here every time your ad is clicked. If you choose your keywords very precisely, you only pay for people who search for them and click on your link. Keywords could include: 'barista course amsterdam'.

Tip 5. Get participants from your network

Do you open emails from people you know? Probably! And a newsletter? Probably much less often.

Many companies use newsletters to sell their products, but a personal email sometimes works much better. Send people you know in your network an email. You could also email your former students. They might be interested in your new course too!

Tip 6. Collaborate with a platform or partner

Promote your online course on a platform that is relevant to your sector! Or find a partner who has a similar target audience but offers a different product. This way, you can promote each other's products on your websites.

You're stronger together!

Tip 7. Leverage your current participants

“Bring a friend and get 5 euros off”.

You've surely come across ads like that. Where you get a gift when you refer a new customer. Why not use this for your own training?

For example, 10% off a future course. As long as it's something that encourages them to recommend your course to friends. Nothing is more powerful than word-of-mouth. And every marketer will agree with that. Take advantage of it!

Don't lose hope! With these tips, potential participants won't be able to resist your course.
